Oguchi ONYEWU, Secretary General
Royal Excelsior Virton is pleased to announce the appointment of Oguchi ONYEWU as General Secretary of the club.
All football fans remember "Guchi" and his exemplary career at Standard de Liège, crowned by several trophies.
During his playing career, Oguchi ONYEWU accumulated considerable international experience: as a national team player, he wore the US national team jersey 69 times and played in two World Cup finals. At club level, apart from Standard Liege, he played for FC Metz, La Louvière, Newcastle, AC Milan, Sporting Lisbon, Malaga and Philadelphia Union.
After hanging up his boots, Oguchi ONYEWU prepared himself for a new challenge: becoming a football club director.
After studying international business administration, he was director of football academies in the United States and sports director of Orlando City B.
Since 2021, Oguchi has served on the Board of Directors of the US Soccer Federation.
As he has amply demonstrated on the pitch, Guchi loves a challenge.
That is why he has decided to unite his professional destiny with that of Royal Excelsior Virton.
His commitment is part of the owners' desire to provide the club with a professional structure geared towards excellence.
Oguchi ONYEWU will be in charge of the administration of the club as well as its management committee and, as such, will be the interlocutor of the Board of Directors. He will also be in charge of communication and institutional relations, notably with the URBSFA and the Pro League.
Furthermore, he will bring his long and rich footballing experience to RE Virton, on the one hand, by coordinating the re-establishment and development of a particularly ambitious youth school and, on the other hand, by providing his full cooperation to the sports director Tom Van Den Abbeele and the technical staff.
Welcome back to Belgium Guchi!
